If a musical event is to be reproduced believably in a living room,
the most important processes are these two conversions:
1) From air pressure variations to electrical signals (microphones).
2) From electrical signal back to air pressure variations (loudspeakers).
While Siegfried Linkwitz took extraordinary care of the loudspeaker part,
only a fraction of audiophile attention is steered towards the recording side.
When blindly presenting two versions A and B
of the very same music performance at shows this year,
we found that 9/10 listeners preferred
the one-mic recorded version
over the multi-mic´ed version.
More natural, more believable.
