The sound is just amazing. I am delighted. With LXSub2 these are so different speakers. And it is not that there is more bass. Bass is just more swift but everything else is better, other frequencies, details, space, air.
You propably know this yourself…
I play the sound from Roon, through HQ Player and then to AFI USB. Both: the HQ Player and AFI USB make the difference. Thanks again for all the effort (Marcin S. , Poland, LXmini+2)
“…Thank you very much for your experienced tips and advices. Dipolar bass is addictive now! Wow! It has some inusual character that I had never experienced in my life and makes a delight to follow the phrasing in bassists for example. LXSub2 is a marvel from my point of view and a allows a very well thought way to mechanically dampen room modes without additional digital processing. Its sound resembles me the “real thing” a lot (I was double bass player when younger)…”
LXmini and LXsub2 form a LXmini+2 system, that covers the 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range with excellent clarity and dynamism. With an LR2 crossover at a low 60 Hz the woofers can be placed against the side walls of a room and the LXmini used as near-field monitors. Dipole woofers have the advantage of less room mode excitation and thus preserve articulation in bass sounds.
LXsirius+2 is a speaker that is on par with the LX521.4 in terms of frequency range, clarity, imaging, sound stage size and disappearance, albeit at lower maximum sound levels and particularly in the deep bass. The system is flexible in room placement and woofer setup, providing highly satisfying and enjoyable rendering of stereo recordings. LXmini+2 at Burning Amp 2016
Compared to the LXstudio the LXsirius+2 has the same low frequency response but it rolls off more steeply below 20 Hz to attenuate undesired subsonic signals. Due to the compact open baffle design and the fact that only two instead of four 10″ drivers are used, the acoustic output is about 10 dB less than from the LXsub4 woofer of the LXstudio. This means that the LXsub2 has to be driven 10 dB harder, i.e. the cone excursions have to be about three times larger for the same SPL as from the LXsub4 When using a 200 W/channel power amplifier this can lead to damaging excursions of the 10″ driver at very low frequencies. So caution is advised. Start with a low volume level for playback of an unfamiliar recording, before turning up the volume and watching the driver cone for over-excursions, which also announce themselves as severe distortion. When operated with care the LXmini+2 can handle any program material at enjoyable SPL.
How to set up:
The music signal from your player (Turntable/CD/NetworkStreamer) is split on line level by an electronic crossover. ASP (analog signal processor) or DSP (digital signal processor). The split signals are amplified individually and sent to its dedicated driver.
To pair the best components for these duties -and to minimize cabling in the listening room-, find everything needed between (CD-)player and LXsirius in the PowerBox 6pro NCore : A precisionASP followed by six channels of NCore® amplification. Six channels mean, that PowerBox 6pro NCore feeds the subwoofers (LXsub2 or LXsub4 ) as well. Multicore cables with 1-click SpeakOn plugs establish an easy and safe connection betwween Power PowerBox 6pro NCore and LXmini.
The kit contains:
- 4+2 SEAS drivers
- Precision cut tubes, predrilled
- CNCed HDF parts in dull black (high density wooden material, without the downsides of MDF like soaking edges, etc)
- Screwless FR driver mount, no visible screws on upper tube
- Capless lower tube mount
- Screwless upper tube support
- 4 Speakon 4-way plugs “1-click”
- Internal cables
- Rubber couplers
- Damping material
- U-frame woofers
- transparent tubes
- custom color lacquered tubes, etc.
